It is ALL about the children; a universal refrain spoken by education professionals when evaluating education policy and objectives. Employing that refrain into one’s daily practices, living those policies and realizing those objectives universally begins by providing the opportunity for a quality early childhood educational experience to our youngest pre-k learners.
Every year hope filled families launch their young children’s lifelong journey of learning, discovery and fulfillment by embarking on their early childhood educational programs. Transforming those hopes and aspirations into a reality requires that our youngest learners be enrolled in the highest quality early educational programs that focus on the entire child, including individualized education, health, nutrition, social and other services to the children and their families. As a result, this single early childhood event, coupled with the supportive systems, data and processes to ensure the measured quality of that experience, has proven to be one of the most powerful predictors of their young learner’s future success.
To that end, in support of our current and future client early childhood servicing partners, Choice Solutions (Choice) has made a steadfast commitment to provide the highest quality solutions that efficiently manage and support the delivery and evaluation of early childhood programs. Through the deployment of edFusion™ solution building blocks, including the Pre-Kindergarten Information System (PKIS), Choice’s partners enjoy an optimized secure framework that provides users with immediate, authorized access to information that is directly applicable to their role (e.g. parent, educator, administrator, etc.). The data consumer ultimately has the flexibility to glean valuable information driven insights through user definable, personally selectable forms of data presentation formats and data manipulation functions. In addition, PKIS is fully interoperable with the entire edFusion™ solution suite providing the opportunity to securely and accurately follow an individual pre-k child, or a cohort of pre-k children, through the life of their k-20 education journey.
Child registration will be available to users who have been assigned the appropriate edFusion™ PKIS roles within edFusion™ Directory Manager. Users have the ability to register children by means of a batch upload or by using a single child registration process.
Batch upload: The batch upload file format includes all edFusion™ PKIS fields, as well as a field to designate whether the record being uploaded is to register, unregister or change the child record. All fields in the batch upload adhere to the listed business rules.
Single child entry registration: The single entry screen provides the facilities the capability to capture all required fields and be set against the same rules as registrations that take place during batch upload. This functionality is ideal for small services providers to easily upload there student information.
Several times during the year, the Pre-Kindergarten facilities are expected to submit the mandated data. This process is managed using data collections by the State Education Agencies (SEA’s). The facilities prepare the data to submit their data/files and, once a PKIS user is prepared to submit their child roster as a collection, the data will be processed through several intense steps to pre-certify their roster as a snapshot- referred to as collection snapshot.
The data collections are processed in collection windows (time periods). These collection windows will be managed and administered by the SEA administrators. The facility administrators will have the capability to cleanse the data using case management and then go through a process of pre-certification to certification of the data collections.
edFusion™ PKIS has extensive data validations to ensure the highest levels of data quality and integrity. These are handled in three different ways depending on how the user enters the system and what level of case we are dealing with.
edFusion™ PKIS users have an extensive ability to search for children’s membership by last name, first name, State ID or by facility within their organization/district. Once a membership record has been found, the user, if permitted, has the ability to edit and save the child information (managed through the security and permissions). Membership records returned within this search may or may not have exit dates depending upon the SEA’s business rules. Child search for state level users includes Facility Code, Primary Funding Source and Secondary Funding Source as live search elements.
edFusion™ PKIS will provide you with the ability to assign State Assigned Unique IDs to their Pre-Kindergarten Students. If the SEA has this functionality with an existing system, then it can be integrated with that system. These State IDs can be assigned through an active registration process. These IDs are unique and portable across the years to create the longitudinal record of the child/student through their P-20 span. The solution has an extensive integration with the case management to ensure the highest levels of data integrity.
edFusion™ PKIS provides an extensive set of pre-defined reports. These reports are available to be run and printed by anyone with the appropriate security access.
